Differential Thermal Analysis, DTA for short, is one of the most popular thermoanalytic techniques, which is quite similar to differential scanning calorimetry. For differential thermal analysis, both the material under study and an inert reference are programmed to undergo identical thermal cycles, while recording generated temperature difference between the tested sample and the reference substance. The recorded differential temperature is then plotted against time, or against temperature (DTA curve/thermogram). Any heat flux of the the sample, either exothermic or endothermic, can be recognized and detected relative to the inert reference. So it’s easy for analysts to provide the information of the transformations, such as glass transitions, crystallization, melting and sublimation according to the plotted DTA curve. So this technique is widely applied for:
Thermal Stability
Aging Assessment
Phase Transition Determination
Heat-induced Formulation/Deformulation of Organic/Inorganic Mixtures
Loss on Drying/Loss on Ignition
Degree of Curing
Reaction Kinetics
Pyrolysis/Sintering Behavior of Material
